Writing

I have recently just posted pictures, instead of writing something. now i will try to recount a few events that come to mind. i remember when we went to Kutch i have shown you a few pictures of how beautiful the place was, but what i will remember for a long time. sitting on street in front of a fire with locals. what made the experience amazing was the attitude of the locals. we approached them and they let us sit with them. not asking any questions. everyone sat around the fire and they couldn't care less if we were sat there or not. it was a beautifully nonchalant attitude. we just sat in silence around this warm fire in what was a every cold night. they spoke to each other and we spoke amongst ourselves. sometimes our conversation would mix. as if we were part of the group.

today we just came back form visiting a dam, and near by we started speaking to slum dwellers. they were located on this vast spread of pebbles. first we lay on the pebbles under the sun as the people made fresh fish and vegetables for us. the food was special. and again their warm welcome attitude radiated so wonderfully.

so what i'm trying to say, we look at the people form the outside and think they have 'unfortunate' lives, but as you look more closely we realise they are very happy and free. this is the key word, free. they are allowed to do what they want when they want. [of course to an extent] its freedom much greater than any of us in europe. we experience on an almost daily basis many rickshaw drivers just sleeping in their rickshaw, socialising or just driving passed. who just shake their head as you ask them to take you somewhere. not bothered, they just don't feel like working at that moment. in Kutch we spoke to the hotel guy and he told us how he owned a restaurant and his workers turned up when they wanted or didn't turn up for the same reason. so this freedom to say no penetrates through the life in India and its people.

Just a thought....
